KU Week 4 (27th March) - Inkigayo LIVE

So...
yes...
I WENT TO SBS INKIGAYO LIVE SHOW!!!!!!!!!
Woohooo~~

* * *

Wait wait...
I should start with what I did on Sunday morning first
before I crazily blog on Inkigayo...

So on Sun morning
I finally met my ex-homestay sister :)
a sweet girl whom i spent 1D1N at her place 1.5 yrs ago
during my Yonsei trip
so so so happy to be able to meet her again :)
and
we went to another korean traditional houses village
but this time
no
not the Namsan Hanok Village again
but a place called 북촌한옥마을 Bukchon Hanok Ma'eul
though it's a tourist site
but it's not as "touristic" as the Namsan village
it's actually a residential area
with those traditional houses preserved~
ooooo....i'm loving it~~~

Me with my ex-homestay sis ^^
There're lots of slopes, but I really didn't mind climbing up and down so to explore around
and yes, there are still people living in those traditional houses!!

This village is getting famous among the local Koreans as well
mostly due to its appearance in the variety show "1 Night 2 Days"
and if you've watched the K-Drama called
개인의 취향 (个人取向 Personal Preference)
by the famous Lee Minho 李敏鎬 (the F4 Gu-junpyo)
you might have remembered the unique house appearing in the show
the 상고재 相婟材
oh yes yes
the house is located at this village as well
BUT
haiz haiz
we didn't manage to find the house :(

Anyway
I LOVE THIS VILLAGE!!!
here's a little advice to those going Seoul:
you may skip Namsan Hanok Village
but you mustn't miss this Bukchon Hanok Village
though it's seldom included in the tour agency itinerary...

(self-note: to be visited again when flowers blossom to search for the house again~)

Alright alright
i shall start blogging on 110327 SBS Inkigayo (인기가요 人氣歌謠)
:PP

The story actually started on the past Wed night
I suddenly remembered that I've gotten my Alien Registraion Card (IC for foreigner)
which means
I can now sign-up on all the Korean websites
the first one I went
was SBS website
why?
Because of Jokwon the MC :)
so...
I've struggled more than half an hour
to read through the instructions and submit application for ticket etc etc
and wait...wait for results
and results came out on Thurs afternoon
and I struggled through all the Korean instructions again
and
I GOT SELECTED?!!?!!
OH I GOT THE TICKET!!!!
OMG SUPER LUCKY!!!!

One "pass" for 2 persons, so i went with another NUSian ^^

* * *

The show starts at 15:50
and admission starts at 15:00
so
my friend and I decided to go there "earlier", just in case...
so we reached there at 14:30
lotsssss of people had already been queueing in front of the SBS building
heard that those fan groups actually started queueing since 6AM >.<
well...I'm grateful that I got a ticket~~
so
we went forward to the "security officers" (i.e Men in Black, MIB)
and showed him my pass
and checked for my name on his list
and got my pass "signed"
and we're directed to queue at the line labelled 501-600
glad that their queueing system is really well-organised
everyone seems to know where to queue and what to do next
the fans were really "experienced"
my friend and I simply followed what others did, hahaa~

and very soon...
we were inside...the gate... :P
by the way, i think we can still cut into the queue even if late, as long as have the ticket/pass

Fan groups still waiting outside; and there're lots of MIB~~
and we waited and waited and waited
finally...
the entrance was opened around 15:15~
AND I FINALLY WAS INSIDE THE STUDIO!!!!!

photography wasn't allowed in the studio
but people still tried to take photos secretly
when spotted by those "Men in Black"
they will just flashed their torchlights towards your cameras
no confiscation, unless you keep doing it so openly in front of him
i saw a girl's phone got snapped away, and the MIB just erased everything from it >.<

the studio was quite small
but everyone got to sit comfortably
and the good thing about small studio is that
THE STAGE IS CLOSE!!!!
ooooo~~~~

Hehe...
everything was so well-organised and in order
i'm truly impressed by SBS, as well as the fan groups
fan groups were crazy, but they're super "civilised"
they screamed alot, but they kept quiet when the MCs were talking
and they had "scripts" for them to shout out specific lines while their idols were singing
and they respect other fans and idols as well
the girls sitting in front of me were Dalmatian's fans
they were so so so crazy, waving hands, banners etc etc when Dalmatian came on stage
but they sat back quietly when Dalmatian's stage was over so not to block others behind them
one word: civilised~~

There're at least 6 cameras working; it's interesting to see how they move the cameras around...
Do note: it's a LIVE tv show~~
The stage is really close!! Where's Kwonie?? Well...poor kwonie injured his leg, so i guessed that's why he's not opening the show...aiya missed the chance to grab a photo of him :(
DBSK won~~ I only managed to take this low-quality photo with my iPhone, coz there's a MIB standing next to me >.<

For more photos (but not in good quality),
do visit my FB here....
For video coverage of 110327 Inkigayo,
please youtube/pps yourself (click here)
i have no videos :PP

Anyway,
here's one of my favourite moments during the show:

Kwonie stammered over the phrase 작사작곡 (作詞作曲)
then got teased by Yonghwa: "Must you do that when I come back? (rough translation)"
Kwonie: "Oh I'm nervous..."
and kwonie actually did a very cute movement to show his "nervousness"
too bad not shown on TV
(but you can still see him hugging his arms when the camera focused back to him)
hehe...
by the way... I still feel Yonghwa as one of the MCs there
haiz...why must he leave inkigayo :(

Well well...
I'll keep trying my luck to get tickets into Inkigayo again (and other music show too)
hopefully next time I'll get to sit near the MC stage
ya, the MC stage was a little too far from where I sat
and I couldn't really see kwonie and other MCs

Sidenote:
Kwonie hurt his leg
I think that's why he kept sitting on the MC stage all the time
hehe
at first i thought he's so 大牌
other MCs all went down the stage when not filming, while he alone sat there
he simply leaned aside against the wall/pillar when the camera wasn't filming him but other MCs
he didn't even give out his seat to the Sulli nor IU, what a man :P
but now we know...he's injured and couldn't moved around...
poor kwonie >.<

* * *

It's really fun and memorable to attend such a LIVE tv show
amazing to look at those cameramen operating the cameras
though they keep blocking my view :P
also
the dry ice...
it's funny to see the backstage crew "mopping and fanning" away the dry ice after end of each stage
and
I learned that not all performance are LIVE on TV
ya
some were pre-recorded
and the singers just went on stage again
sort of "fan service" this time, while the tv broadcasting the pre-recorded performance
eg:
- ZeA and Infinite were soooo lovely and kept waving at fans
- While Big Bang were faithfully singing and dancing properly, Seungri was hyperactive and playing around
- CN Blue walked around and played with other's piano while waiting on stage
- DBSK...well...a bit too serious on stage i think, even though theirs not LIVE on tv...

Lastly
I shall end my super long blog with this song
my new favourite:
내꺼 중에 최고 (Best in My Life) by 이현 (Lee Hyun)
powerful and thick voices
i consider it as the best singing performance on 110327 inkigayo

<<Rmb to off the KBS Music Player before playing this clip>>

I'm always curious how people get to go inside a TV show recording studio
this curiosity has been developing since small
and it's getting tenser after I reached Korea
i just feel that my trip won't be perfect
if I don't go to any K-pop event/show
concert tickets are expensive, so I thought of going TV show :)

So I started my research on how to get free tickets into recording studio
most websites/blogs have guides on how to queue with fan groups early in morning if were to get tickets
very very few websites mentioned about getting tickets from the broadcasting stations directly
hence decided to explore the SBS, MBC, KBS official website myself
but all are written in Korean >.<
it's really a challenge to find the correct sites and to read all those instructions in Korean
haha...kind of a quiz to test my Korean after learning it for more than 2 years~~
well...i guess i passed the quiz then, seeing that i managed to register, and gotten the tickets!!!

p.s. even if can't get tickets online, don't give up!
you still have chance to watch LIVE show
if you're willing to wake up early and queue with the fan groups
here's a guide from Redpincers:

Signing up account at Korea websites
For foreigners, it's rather troublesome to sign up for accounts at Korea-based websites
if you're residing overseas, I think only ID/passport is required
but for foreigners residing in korea, your IP address will be detected
and you must sign up with your Alien Registration Card
you won't get the card unless you're a "long-term" students/workers etc residing in Korea
I've waited for one month before getting my Alien Card and finally getting myself an account)
and yes, foreigners are called "Alien" in this case, ahhahah...

So for non-Koreans, I think it'd better to sign up for all necessary accounts in your home country
you may update your phone number/address later once reached Korea
(this applies to G-Market and all other Korea-based websites as well)

By the way,
for Music Bank, Music Core and Inkigayo,
once you succeed in the "lottery", you may bring another friend along to the show
so one pass for 2 persons ^^

* * *

LIVE show: Thu 6pm
Venue: 마포구 상암동 CJ E&M센터 2F
Ticket: No tickets required; just go there early to queue >.<

***
KBS Music Bank:
Application: every Thu (9:00AM) -Fri (24:00 MN)
Result: next Mon after 5pm (namelist released on their website)
Ticket collection: Fri 4:50pm - 5:20pm
Admission: Fri 5:30pm - 6:00pm
LIVE show: Fri 5:50pm
Venue: KBS 신관 공개홀

I think there's some problem with the website
'cause it keeps saying that I'm not over 15 year-old
헐~

***
MBC Music Core:
http://quiz.imbc.com/user/template/quiz_join_frm.asp?MstDiv=35&SvcDiv=96 (to be refreshed every visit)

Application: every Thu (1pm) till next Thu (12 noon)
Result: Thu after 6pm (through SMS; namelist online as well)
Admission: Sat 3:30pm
LIVE show: Sat 4:20pm
Venue: Ilsan MBC Dream Centre (South Gate)
Not sure on how to collect the tickets...
but I believe it's the same as Inkigayo? (see below)

***
SBS Inkigayo: http://tv.sbs.co.kr/gayo/
Result: Thu after 3pm (check online after login)
Admission: Sun 2:30pm
LIVE show: Sun 3:50pm
Venue: SBS 공개홀

Have to check the results online after login
if succeed, just print out the pass, there's "admission number" on it
bring along the pass and ID card to SBS on Sunday
show it to the security officers, they will check against their namelist, and sign your pass
Since admission starts from 2:30, and since they queue according to the "admission number"
there's no need to go there early...around 2:30 is fine~
After gotten the pass signed, keep it safe...then queue outside the gate according to the number
then just wait for your turn to go inside :)
and i think even if you're late, say arrive around 3:15,
you can still go in, the security officers will help you "cut queue" (but better don't risk) >.<

KU Week 4 (21st - 26th March) - ft KU CCA

Week 4 here is rather a nice week for me~
I've decided to write Monday together with Wednesday,
and Tuesday together with Thursday
'cause of the similar timetable on those days

* * *

21st March (Mon) + 23rd March (Wed)

Neurobiology Quiz
Did I mention that I had my first Neurobiology quiz on Mon?
Oh well
I actually studied over the past weekends
it's just an ungraded quiz
why am i so stressed up and spending weekend to study for it?
because
i'm an exchange student
huh?!!
well...
because
my neurobiology prof here can recognise me
both my face and my name
>.<
during every lecture
the reason she has to teach in English
and sometimes translate the students' questions into English
is because of my presence
>.<
she glances at me from time to time during lecture
to make sure i can understand her English
>.<
oh well...
with prof like this
how can I fail her tests!!!
>.<
so i faithfully spent my weekend (esp the sunny Sunday)
to memorise the names of each part of the brain

so how's the results?
well...it's released on Wed...
at the end of the lecture
the prof called out names one by one
and ppl went out to collect their papers one by one
OH NO!!!
WHAT IF I DID BADLY FOR THE QUIZ?!!!
NUS reputation would be ruined on my hands :PP

but luckily (does it considered as lucky anyway?)
i scored 19.5 out of 23
not bad right?
though the highest in class was 22 out of 23
hmm...
i didn't ruin NUS reputation right?
:PP

Nong'ak 農樂
Anyway
Mon and Wed didn't end with my neuro quiz
'cause
I went to join some CCA
called 농악대 Nong'ak (農樂)
direct English translation is "Farmer Music"
a kind of Korean traditional music+dance

I expected to learn how to play their drums
but i sort of forgot that
Nong'ak also consists of the dance element
well...
so our Monday training was started with warm-up exercise
outdoor in the evening
in the cold weather below 5deg
and
we practised "half-squat + rise + half-squat + rise + ..."
and we repeated the same movement for ~10mins
later
add in the hand movement
and then learn how to walk,
together with the same leg and hand movements

Outcomes?
paralysed legs for the next 5 days~~~
and it made me recalled some "sweet" memories:
...got punished in primary school, squat for 100 times etc
...during Xavier/St. John Marching in Convent, hentak kaki for dunno how long
...got tortured once a week during PE in ACJC, trained to complete 2.4km in 16mins
those were really hard times,
but real sweet when you recall them years after ^^

Anyway
the training was continued again on Wed
but this time was held indoor
and no more "physical training"
but get down to learn the 장구 Janggu (長鼓 - "Long Drum")
the noise was unendurable at first
but once you get used to it
you will start enjoy it~

Kuk'ak 國樂
Besides Nong'ak, I've also went for Kuk'ak on Wed
which is the "National Music"
and it's actually very similar to Chinese Orchestra
similar instruments but in different names, of course

and here comes my dilemma
should i continue with Flute?
or should i try out sth new like GuZheng?
advise please... :(

KU Week 3 (14th-20th March)

14th-16th March (Mon-Wed)
School days...
And it was the CCA Fair on Wed
I think the fair here is more fun than NUS matric fair
(or is it because I never been visiting NUS fair properly?)

Oh and it snowed again on Wed evening!!!!
it's rather heavy this time
though just snowed for 15mins
and Jac, I managed to "taste" the snow
well....snow is tasteless, hahahahaha~~~
I'm getting to love snow
so romantic
(but why do people have to keep saying and believing that
the snow was "nuclear radioactive", ha!)

17th March (Thu)
Nothing special
not until the night
having dinner and supper
with my Korean class classmates
치맥, 수맥, 노래방
it's great to be with them
i don't regret taking the Korean class though no MCs :)

치맥 Chi-maek (Chicken + Beer)

18th March (Fri)
Went Myeongdong with Tu -- Vietnamese NUSian
why Myeongdong?
because there's a Dog Cafe!!!
>.<

Big and small doggies around the cafe; scolded by 2 caring shopkeepers from time to time, haa..
These 2 kids had slept through the 1 hour I was there -____-'''
It climbed up my laps itself, and slept there without my permission hahaha~~

Also went to Dongdaemun Fashion Town, the place where I'll be getting my shoes, bag, clothes ^^

19th March (Sat)
Met my Unni!!!!
hehe...i meant my ex-Yonsei-buddy :)
it's been more than one and a half year since we parted
really really really great to meet her again :)
Unni treated me nice pasta at Sinsa-dong
in return, I paid for the dessert at Hyundai Dept Store :)

That's Ice Kacang~ nice nice nice!!!
After that, went Myeongdong again
to buy Bee Cheng Hiang
hehe~

And I finally found the kind of bag that I've been looking for
but
the price was INSANE~~
370,000 Won >.<
and later
i saw online a similar one
and the price is....one zero less...
but i never try purchase online before :(

20th March (Sun)
Supposed to go out with another girl that I knew during the Yonsei-trip
but
it rained in the morning
so the plan was cancelled
but
it stopped in the afternoon
and the weather became SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOODDDD
what a good day for picnic
yet i have all plans cancelled because of the stupid rain in the morning
wuwuwuwu~~~

KU Week 2 (7th-13th March)

Full school week
after one week of struggling
i've decided to continue with Korean class
though I can't map it back to NUS
i.e. no MC for the 4 hours per week class
and
NUS Science Dean Office still hasn't replied me
meaning
i'm risking my MCs by taking all those weird modules here
well
管它的
管不了了~

* * *

Think I posted on facebook before
that I accidentally took the wrong shuttle bus
and went all the way to another college of Health Sciences
a very very very ULU place
which made me wonder if I've left Seoul
i even passed by a place called Arirang-no 阿里郎路
yes...the famous Arirang song~

I should have checked the bus before boarding it >.<
The campus is not as nice as Anam campus as well...
I really thought I was brought out of Seoul by the bus >.<

10th March (Thu)
Went out with Hidayat and Mana
friends from Singapore
had dinner, norae-bang, ice-cream
and chitting-chatting for hours
even though i'm not close to them at all
well...isn't making new friends supposed to be part of the SEP life?

Jjimdak "Steamed chicken" at Anam-dong
I do not sing, but it's simply unavoidable sometimes

13th March (Sun)
The week wasn't an interesting one
except the "surprise" in evening just now
guess what
2AM WERE JUST 200M AWAY FROM MY ROOM

I didn't know about their concert
if i knew that it's held in KU
if i knew that it's held at the stadium in front of my hostel
well...
sob sob...

I can see the lights from my window >.<

I'm so gonna stalk the pop stars' website from now on
and before I leave Korea
I'm so gonna attend at least one music studio
especially Inkigayo
>.<
but when can I get my Alien Card
i need the card to register for most of the Korean websites
>.<

Extra photos:

Secret Garden

Another inevitable K-drama:
Secret Garden
by Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won

A must-watch
if want to know what ppl are talking in korea

And the best part i like about this drama
is one of Hyun Bin's lines:

这是韩国的一个笑话,这一整段都是一个人名,孩子的爸爸希望孩子能够长命百岁,所以把很多跟长寿有关的名词放到名字里,最终组成了这一长串名字。

剧中玄彬只念了这些就重新开始了:

몰라~

자유가 어디냐?
없는 것 같다...
그 게 사랑하는 거 아는데
부담이 되다...
힘들다.
답답하다.
어떡하지?
몰라...
사랑해서 참아야겠지...
이해해야겠지...

Oh yes, I can understand Chinese/Korean~

Here in Korea, people always ask:
"Where're you from?"
Well, I had trouble answering it...
should I say Malaysia or Singapore?
after thinking about it, I've decided to say "I'm from Singapore"
seeing that SEP students are supposed to be the ambassador of NUS

Then people will continue:
"But you look like a Chinese, or Korean."
Well...
"I'm actually a Chinese.
A Chinese born in Malaysia, but study in Singapore."

Well...people here just can't understand our multicultural society...
I've tried explain the 3 main races in Malaysia (or 4 in Singapore)
but they don't seem to see the picture

* * *

So the story continues:

"Can you speak Chinese?"
"Yes, I'm actually a Chinese blablablah..."

When making friends with PRCs
their communication will soon change from Channel 5 to Channel 8
and suddenly pause
and ask me:
"Can you understand us, in Chinese?"
"Err...yes. I'm actually a Chinese blablablah..."
"So can you speak fluently?"
"Err...yes, but not VERY fluent (seeing that we used to speak ROJAK tri-lingua)

They will stare at me in amazement
especially if I reply them in Chinese
well...

* * *

During orientation,
the Korean buddies usually communicate in Korean among themselves
and switch to English only when talking to us foreign students

It's rather "interesting" to know what they talk to each other in Korean
sometimes, they're "complaining"
"complaining" that they can't express themselves well in English when talking to us foreign students
or "teasing" each other should anyone is trying to talk English
they didn't talk bad "behind" us though

At first,
those Korean buddies didn't know I can understand Korean
so they all talk Korean in front of me
sometimes talking sth about me (nothing bad though)
and later, i "accidentally" expose myself by smiling a little at their jokes
so they ask: "can you understand us?"
"Err...actually, yes. I know 'a bit' of Korean."
Soon, more and more people "admit" that they can understand Korean
since then, lesser and lesser "unnecessary Korean" was heard
:p

Neurobiology
还差点找不着教室的说
呵……

讲师一进门、拿起麦克风讲话、点名
句句是韩文
OH NO!!!!!!!
虽然我大致上还听的懂
可是
要我用韩文上Neurobiology
NO WAY!!!!!

还好
讲师点完名后问: "Are there any foreigner here?"
我我我我!!!(我没喊出来,只是举手罢了啦)
呵……
结果老师说: "Then we have to use English for this course."
Opppsss...
全班50多人,就因为我一个人,得用英文上课了~
But not my fault what, the title of the module is "Neurobiology (English)"
There's a "English" stated there what...
:PP
But the lecturer, as well as other Korean students,
seemed rather difficult in communicating in English >.<
哦……
大学了,竟然还有逐一上台自我介绍的
全班50多人,就4人“敢”用英文自我介绍(我是其中之一咯)
Hmmm....will I survive in this environment?

Finally accepted the fact that I'm an exchange student
I'm here to study
not to play though I can choose to
but still...

I missed my trip to Yonsei 2 years ago
...maybe is because I came here with friends last time
and now I'm sort of alone...
-->>Recalling Yonsei trip<<--
